Makeup Mondays With Mario: Your Perfect Nude Lip

When choosing nude shades for your lips, you should keep a couple things in mind: light pinks look better on fare skin because they will most likely have too much white in them for darker complexions. Peachy/beige nudes look great on medium to darker skin tones because of the yellow pigments in them.

If your lips are naturally red or dark, pat some foundation on your lips first to block out the color so that the true lipstick shade shows. My fave nudes are Honolulu Honey Lipstick by NARS and Josie Maran Plumping Lip Gloss in Optimism.

Kim Kardashian in Fragrance Launch at Sephora in Miami

"I created this look on Kim for her first of many fragrance launch events at Sephora in Miami," celebrity make-up artist Mario Dedivanovic said. "Kim and I like to decide together on the look that we're going for and on this day, we actually asked her fans on Twitter for their help in deciding on a make-up look. I wasn't sure if I wanted to give her a sexy, vamp look or go for soft and pretty make-up. In the end, I created an in-between look, playing up her eyes a bit with winged out liner on the top and bottom, rather than with dark shadows. Most importantly, I wanted her skin to glow and look radiant on the red carpet.”

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Making Eyes Look Larger

You should not be afraid to try different bold looks on your beautiful Asian eyes! If you're not happy with the look, wipe it off and give it another try.

To open up your eyes and make them appear larger, simply swipe a light eye pencil along the inner rims of your eyes. The pencil can work in a vanilla or cream color. For a more dramatic contrast, try a white pencil. Apply light colors on your lids and darker shadow along your crease. Try keeping the darker colors away from the inner corners of your eyes as that will bring the eyes closer together.

When going for a smokey eye, try copper shadows or plum instead of black and always curl your lashes - it really helps to open the eyes. Practice makes pretty! Thanks for visiting my column!

Mario Dedivanovic's Blog: Giving Pretty

I love Fashion Week… Its fast-paced, inspiring and glamourous shows motivate me to paint pretty. Another thing I love just as much is giving back. This year, while fashion models strutted the cat-walk looking flawless, I dedicated my personal time to mentoring young women with the help of my friend and client, singer Adrienne Bailon at the Lower East Side Girls Club local charity.

I spent months researching charities that promote self-confidence and self esteem for young women. I came across The Lower East Side Girls Club in NYC and thought they were a perfect match. They prepare the girls for real life experiences such as college interviews and internships. With the generous sponsorship from NYC NEW YORK CITY COLOR, JOSIE MARAN, GIELLA CUSTOM BLEND COSMETICS and SALLY HANSEN, we gifted these amazing girls with great tools to promote natural beauty from the inside out.
Adrienne Bailon, native lower east side girl herself, was so great as she answered questions and shared advice and life experiences with the girls. She also modeled for me as I gave a full makeup lesson, revealed tricks of the trade and exposed the “real” beauty in each of them. I focused on adding bits of color to enhance and brighten the face rather then cover or conceal. Thanks again to Adrienne, NYC New York City Color, Josie Maran, Sally Hansen and Giella for helping put smiles on their young faces. A special thanks to The Lower East Side Girls Club for putting a big smile on my face and hopefully all of yours.

Get The Look: Kim Kardashian’s Vegas Birthday Look…

Okay who watched that episode of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” when they were in Vegas for Kim’s birthday? Kim looked amazing but it was completely overshadowed by her sister’s boyfriend and his ridiculous drunken antics (ughhh…). Well lucky for you, I have the breakdown of Kim Kardashian’s Vegas Birthday Look so you can create the look at home, Kim’s makeup artist the uber talented Mario Dedivanovic routinely creates glamourus looks for Ms. Kardashian all the time but this one in particular stood out to me because it was a softer smokey eye than you are used to seeing on her.



Skin – Sheer Glow Foundation by NARS all over the skin. Under the eyes and to highlight I used YSL’s Touch Eclat. To set everything use a touch of Translucent Loose Powder by Shiseido.
Eyebrows are softly filled in with MAC’s eyebrow pencil in Lingering.
Eyes – Urban Decay eyeshadow in Eldorado on eye lids and browbone. Smog eyeshadow also by Urban Decay on the crease of the eye and outter corners of the lids. Smolder Eye Kohl by MAC rimming the entire eye and on the inner rims. Use more liner towards the outter corners. Using a clean brush, blend along the lashlines, moving up and out. Apply more liner for intensity if needed. Finish the eyes with two coats of Lancome’s Hynose Drama Mascara on top and bottom lashes.
Cheeks – On the apples of the cheeks, use Passion blush by Josie Maran. Skin is bronzed with Josie Maran Bronzing Powder. Brush it along the hairline, jawline and hollows of cheeks. To highlight the cheek bones, use Trace Gold blush by MAC.
Lips are lined with MAC’s Cremestick Liner in Summerfruit followed by Lipgelee in Saplicious, also by MAC.
This is similar to teh smokey eye I was talking about last week, very wearable and easier to pull off than you think. Try this at home and tell me what you think!

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Red Lipstick

There are a few great tips that I can share with you when it comes to applying red lipstick. First, line your lips with a matte pencil that is similar to the lipstick color or darker. Using a triangular shaped sponge, dip it into loose translucent powder and apply it right below the outer corner of the lip line. Don’t blend the powder yet as that will be last. This will prevent the lipstick from bleeding. Apply the red lipstick using a lip brush and make sure to fill the lips in completely. Take a tissue and blot your lips - that should absorb some of the lipstick, leaving a sort of stained effect on the lips. Apply one more coat of lipstick, then sweep away the loose powder from below…and now you're good to go. Thanks for visiting Makeup Mondays with Mario.

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Keeping Foundation On Your Face

I can totally sympathize with you, as someone that constantly gets makeup "spots" on just about everything. Here's how to keep your foundation on your face and off the paper work:

Try using a oil free moisturizer if you aren't already. Makeup that smears off the skin easily probably isn't being set well. With a velour powder puff, set your makeup by pressing translucent loose powder all over face after foundation. If this doesn't help, you can try a makeup sealer. They come in spray bottles and help keep everything in place. Lastly and most important - try to stop touching your face! If you didn't touch your face, your hands wouldn't get makeup on them. It's a hard habit to break, but not impossible.

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Slimming A Wide Nose

Here are a couple of tricks/tips I recommend:

Make sure the nose has a base on it and set it with some loose powder. Using a soft bristled brush (eye shadow/blending brush), dip a bit into a matte bronzer or blush that's a few shades deeper then your skin. Tap off the excess powder and, starting at the inside corner of the brow, softly shade going down along the sides of the nose. Again, it's very important that you start soft. It should look like a natural shadow and not an eyeshadow. Using a lighter shade either shimmer or matte, apply on the bridge of the nose. Blend with a clean brush if there are any lines.

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Best Under Eye Concealer

The best concealer really depends on the skin or area you want to cover up. If I had to choose one right now, I'd say the Lift Concealer by Make Up For Ever. Apply some with a brush to undereyes, blend with a damp sponge and set with translucent powder using the same damp sponge. Brush away that excess powder and voila - you've got flawless, creaseless undereyes!

Makeup Mondays With Mario: You're Blushing!

Choosing the right color and texture of blush is the trick to getting a natural-looking flush. First you want to be sure that your skin is evened out with your base. If you're going for a cream blush, don't use powder on your cheeks. If you choose a powder blush, definitely use a bit of translucent powder to set the makeup so that the blush wont get blotchy.


Now that skin is properly prepped, you can grab your blush brush in front of a mirror and smile. Apply the color right onto the apples of the cheeks. Start with a little product and add more if needed. Do not take the color all the way to the temples/ears unless you're getting dressed for a 70's/80's themed party! Blend the color with your brush to be sure there aren't any lines, etc.


For lighter skin tones, go with pink and peachy colors. Darker skin tones can also use these colors, but should have more yellow and/or red undertones to avoid looking ashy. Reds also look great on dark skin. Play around and have fun! Thanks for visiting Makeup Mondays with me!

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Tips For Rosacea

I know that rosacea sufferers have it more difficult then others when trying to cover up and even out the skin. I have worked many times with different women who have rosacea. 'Less is more' works best for this. Definitely go for a liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer and use minimal loose powder on the skin. Apply the foundation with a damp sponge by pressing it onto the skin. Try not to rub it too much.

You may want to add a bit of your makeup to the neck area as well and see if you still are not happy with the shade. To prevent the clown look, go with a deeper color foundation and make sure the powder is not too light. I'm sure you will find an easy solution so that makeup time is a good time! Give Pretty: Makeup Artist Mario Dedivanovic & Singer Adrienne Bailon Give Back…

I love it when I hear stories that inspire young people. Celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic (who is famous for the looks he does on Kim Kardashian and countless others) teamed up with singer Adrienne Bailon to give back to the community. Mentoring girls at this age is critically important to foster their self esteem. Especially when there are so many skewed ideas of what beauty is and should be. Mario wanted to find a charity where he could do just that.




“I wanted to give back to charity by teaching girls how to do makeup and provide them with some great products. After months of looking for the perfect local charity, I found the Lower East Side Girls Club- a charity for young girls age 13-18. They promote self confidence and prepare the girls who come from humble beginnings for college, the real world and careers. My friend and client Adrienne Bailon agreed to be the model for the girls.”

He continued, “Adrienne is a native New Yorker who is from the Lower East Side so it was wonderful to see what a huge role model and inspiration to the girls she was . They asked questions as I gave a full makeup lesson…I taught them little simple tricks, not focused on covering up anything but bringing out their natural beauty instead.”

Mario Dedivanovic's Blog: Im Loving… Motives Cosmetics by Loren Ridinger

The other day I received a huge box in the mail and inside was the entire line of Motives cosmetics by the gracious and gorgeous Loren Ridinger! (Pics above of almost everything Loren sent me) My assistant and I spent hours testing all of the shades and textures – many of which will now be staples in my kit.

I used the white pencil on set yesterday on a model and it turned out flawless and lasted all day. Today I used a few different gold and warm toned eye shadows on Kim. The pigment and textures are beautiful and I look forward to using Motives more often. Thanks Loren! Xo Mario

Makeup Mondays With Mario: How To Apply False Lashes

First of all, thank you for your kind words and for putting a smile on my face this morning! I love sharing my knowledge of makeup and beauty and hope that my answers to your questions solve whatever makeup dilemmas you may have. Before I explain some tips and tricks about false eyelashes, remember that a little mess can be cleaned up, so giving up is not an option!

Before applying false lashes, determine what style or shape works best for your eyes. Strip lashes will most likely have to be cut shorter on the corners for a perfect fit. Some find individual lashes easier to apply and more natural looking. I think it depends on your own lashes and "look" you're going for.

Start by curling lashes and applying mascara as usual. Hold the lash with fingers or tweezers and apply some lash glue along the entire strip, making sure not to use too little or too much of the product. Now STOP. The glue must dry a bit to a tacky texture before it’s placed. You will know its ready when it darkens a bit and looks almost dry.

Now you can take the lash with tweezers or even your hand, tilt head up a bit and apply the lash right over your own lashes. Make sure to try and get it as close to the roots as possible. Curling your lashes and false lashes together (with very little pressure) works beautifully to sort of join and blend the two. For added drama, apply more mascara and then separate any clumps if needed.

Some extra tips - use Dark Tone Duo Eyelash Glue. It dries dark and comes in a user-friendly tune.

Lining the top lids with a dark liner really finishes the look and conceals any imperfections along the upper lash line. ;-)

For fun and glamorous lashes, try Ja'Maal Buster lashes and Smoke and Mirrors lashes. Another fave of mine and classic are the Ardell lashes which come in tons of different styles.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians – Season 4 Finale tonight!

As a lot of you all know, I flew out to LA to work on Season 4 of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. It was a season full of drama, excitement, tears and everything in between. I feel fortunate to have been there to witness Khloe’s marriage to Lamar and Kourt’s pregnancy. I cant forget Kim’s Vegas birthday! (LOL) The Kardashian girls are truly beautiful inside and out and I had an amazing time glamming them up everyday for over two months. Kourt – thanks for being the best pregnant woman I’ve ever worked on. Khloe – thanks for the endless laughs and Kim, my muse – thanks for continuing to inspire me everyday.

I hope you all enjoyed watching the season as much as I enjoyed both watching and working it! Im so excited to watch the finale tonight on E! because I know it’s going to be sooo good! Get The Face! Kim Kardashian – Valentines day Queen of Hearts

Happy Valentines Day! Here is a Valentines day treat for you all as I promised earlier today. I love doing this soft and pretty makeup on Kim and apparently you love it too! I’ve gotten a ton of requests for a “get the face” post for last nights Valentines look. Hope you try it out and if so, please send in pics to me. Here’s how you can “Get the Face!”

I started out with Josie Maran Argan Primer Mist on the face. Once that dries, go on to your foundation. On Kim -DiorSkin Forever Extreme Wear Flawless Makeup SPF 25. Use just a bit of this foundation and blend well. Set your skin with a little of Smashbox HALO Hydrating Perfecting Powder.

I filled in Kim’s brows with MAC’s Eye Brows Pencil in Lingering. Sweep the pencil with light strokes in the direction the hair grows. Brush through brows for a more blended, natural look.

Using a brush, I applied Sweetheart eye shadow by Josie Maran on the eye lids. Keep the shadow right below the crease. Next, I gave her a thin line on the upper lid using ARTLINER – Precision Point EyeLiner by Lancome. Feel free to extend the line out without overdoing it. Lashes – use one coat of HYPNÔSE DRAMA Instant Full Body Volume Mascara by Lancome. I added some individual long lashes by Ardell to the outer corners of her eyes. Follow with another coat of mascara on the top and bottom lashes as well.

To warm up and bronze the skin, I used Laguna Bronzing Powder by NARS. Using a small shadow brush, apply a dab of the bronzer to the crease of eyes and along the lower lash lines. To make her cheeks pop and to add a gorgeous glow, I swept Powder Blush by NYX Cosmetics in Peach on the apples of the cheeks. For that extra glow on the cheek bones apply N.Y.C. New York Color Sparkle Eye Dust in Opal Sparkle.

Finish off this Valentines look with a sexy and pretty shade of pink on your lips. Line all over with Sephora’s Nano Lip liner in Pinup Pink and follow with Pure Lipgloss in Petunia, also by Sephora. Have fun! Xo Mario

Kim Kardashian bebe Fashion Show Makeup Breakdown

Follow Mario's instructions to "get the face"...

Since the Bebe show was a day event, I wanted Kim to look fresh and modern and not take away from her bebe dress.

I used High Definition Healthy FX Foundation by Smashbox. Under the eyes is Lancome Effacernes Waterproof Protective Underye Concealer in Clair II. Set the makeup with Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder in Translucent.

Brows are filled in with Sephora Collection Brow Sculpting Pencil in Medium, then brushed out to soften and blend. Use Star Sailor Eye Shadow Duo by NARS on the eyelids - the darker shade all over the lid and the lighter shade just in the center of the lid. Also smudge a bit of the darker shade along the lower lash lines. I lined Kim's inner eyes with NYC New York Color Eyeliner Duet in Rich Girl. The upper lids are lined with MAC Liquid Eye Liner in Boot Black. Finish off the eyes with a couple of coats of Dior's Diorshow Mascara in Black.

To warm up your skin and contour, use Bronzing Powder in Beach by Josie Maran Cosmetics. With a small brush, try sweeping some this shade onto the crease of the eyes. To get Kim's pretty cheeks, I went for Blush Me! in Rose Rebelle 1 by Sephora Collection.

Line your lips softly with Lingering Lip Pencil by GIELLA Custom Blend Cosmetics. Follow with Barbarella Lipstick by NARS and then gloss it up using Sephora Collection's Ultra Shine Lipgloss in Golden Pink 27. To set the whole look and keep it looking fresh all day, I sprayed AmorePacific Moisture Bound Skin Energy Hydrating Delivery System.
