Lilac Lovelies: Going Monochromatic at the Oscars

TREND: Lilac Accessories

WHO'S WEARING IT: Queen Latifah (Badgley Misckha Couture, Chopard), Cameron Diaz (Christian Dior gown, Harry Winston), Zoe Saldana (Givenchy Couture)

HOW TO WEAR IT: Oscar attendees continued the light purple trend from Golden Globes, but took the color even one step further by pairing their lavender gowns with matching jewels and accessories. We adored Zoe's amethyst ring and even though Charlize's dress was disastrous that Dior clutch was killer.

But as chic as monochromatic looks can be, please don't go as drastic as dying your hair like Kelly Osbourne. We can only handle one cotton candy 'do for spring.

Smokey Eyes 101: Perfect Shadows For Smokey Eyes…

I don’t care what anyone says, a good smokey eye says glamour but a BAD one says so much more. Don’t go for the dark black or steel gray shadows you see on the runway and in the magazines. If you don’t know what you are doing (and in some cases, even if you do…) it most always comes out looking muddy, unprofessional and quite frankly like you got punched in the eye. We don’t want that!! Stick to shades that are in the browns, plums and even green families. They are easier to work with and will look more subtle as opposed to your eye-makeup being the first thing that people notice. You want them to notice your EYES and THEN your makeup.

Here are a few tips that I have picked up over the years:

ALWAYS use a primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion is my fave)
Choose a shadow that compliments your eye shade
Use CLEAN brushes. If your brushes are NOT clean it can contribute to the muddy look I spoke of above
Another thing you want to make sure of is that you use a HIGHLY pigmented shadow. If you use a shadow that doesn’t have enough pigment, not only will the look not last, it will end up looking more natural than anything else. You can test the pigmentation of shadows in the store. Take a shadow applicator and sweep it across the product, test a bit on your hand if it shows up after ONE sweep, the pigmentation is high. If it takes several sweeps then move on.

Here are some of my favorites:

NARS Cordura – My “go to” shadow for a fool proof look. This with a little Smolder Pencil from MAC and smokey eye heaven.

Smashbox Smokebox A Dual purpose wet/dry palette. Contains three super intense, long wearing shadows (Beige, Soft Pewter and Intense Black) that can be worn dry for an added touch of shimmer or wet for extra drama.

Christian Dior Night Butterfly A lovely plum/violet palette from Fall 2009’s Jazz Club collection that gives you the option to change it up and try something different. Since you get Five shades you can really do two looks, a decidedly purple or a cool smokey look.

Bobbi Brown Nude Palette When I want something a little deeper, I reach for this palette. The Caviar shade is magical.

No matter what shadows you use, make sure you take your time, smokey eyes can look fantastic or horrific, make sure yours are on the fantastic side.

Stay Pretty!!

Wrap Your Waist in a Bow Belt!

TREND: Dresses with a single bow accent at the waist

WHO’S WEARING IT: Emily Blunt (Dolce & Gabbana), Zooey Deschanel (Luella) and Eva Mendes (Christian Dior)

HOW TO WEAR IT: A sophisticated frock wrapped in a sweet bow has "holiday party" written all over it. But for the gift that keeps on giving, we suggest investing in a classic black bow belt to get the look. That way, you can add a hint of girlie charm to any dress. Add a pair of black tights for a totally winterized outfit.

On The Set Of Sex And The City 2 With Sarah Jessica Parker Wearing Christian Dior

I had major goosebumps when I saw Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw wearing her Christian Dior Fall 2000 newspaper print dress on set this weekend.

If you are a Sex And The City addict like me, you’ll remember that Carrie first wore this dress in Season 3.

In that particular episode Carrie gets mugged for her Manolo Blahnik heels and Fendi bag…I mean baguette, and thinks her karma is shot.

So she meets Natasha to apologize for wrecking her marriage with Mr Big.

In this new scene SJP is wearing Christian Louboutin lace open-toe booties, which a bronze embellished heel.

They were either made especially for the movie, modified, or a slightly different version from the ones available to purchase from Bergdorf Goodman.

After seeing this picture of SJP on set during the day, all I can think about is going to the gym and doing some sit ups.

The 44 year old actress looked stunning showing off her midriff, as she wore a knotted plaid shirt paired with skinny cropped jeans and lilac Brian Atwood Loca suede studded heels.

I love this casual look, as much as any high-end look SJP wears as Carrie.

Patricia Field always get both so right for Carrie.

This film is due to be released in US theaters on May 28, 2010.

I think I’m looking forward to the premieres more than the film.

Christian Dior Gladiator Sandals

Kim Kardashian seen leaving a nail salon in Hollywood, with the famous sandals Christian Dior Extreme Gladiator Sandals. The same on that SJP had on in the movie Sex in the City worn in black and brown. Are they hot or what? I think I may need a pair too. The handbag Kim Kardashian is carrying is Chloe Shleby Shopper, seen her carrying Fashion Week in NY. Kim's dress is from Jay Godfrey Flowers Petal Tiered Slip Dress. What do you think of the shoes?

Christian Dior Spring 2009 Haute Couture

Designer Handbag of the Week: Dior Cannage Tote

I love a good black bag. It’s like the little black dress in the closet every girl must have. And I love Dior. It is high end fashion that intertwines style and elegance. This is why I am in absolute love with the Dior Cannage Tote. Apparently Dior has used the cannage stitching previously, and they have revisited the past to bring the gorgeous style to the alluring present. I see this bag being perfect for the in-style working girl or the shopper or just anyone! It is black and can be used for just about anything.

The tote is made of smooth leather and shows off the Dior cannage-stitching on front and back. The handles are made of rolled leather and feature polished silver metal “D” charms which adds a little bling to the black classic look of the tote. The tote also has a long outer pocket on the back with magnetic snap closure, magnetic snap closure with additional snaps at the sides, and of course protective bottom feet. The inside is lined with tone-on-tone logo jacquard canvas lining and has a zipped pocket. Sizing up at 14.5″ x 11″ x 5.5″ makes this tote large enough to carry whatever you may need. For a not awful but not cheap $1,280 this black tote is ready at eLuxury.

Runway to Red Carpet: Christian Dior

The actress looked divine in her orange and pink embellished dress, which clearly made her stand out amongst the grey and black that all the other celebrities decided to wear to this couture show.
