It seems that when it comes to fashion, it's all about cutting out something: carbs, shoes, swimsuits, and, yes, dresses. Last year everyone exposed their backs. Then came risqué snowflake-style design. But now stars are content to simply reveal their sides.
The slits work best when the rest of the dress is fairly conservative. Kate Hudson's Rachel Roy gown has sleeves and Alexis Bledel's Cushnie et Ochs sheath has a high neckline. Hayden Panettiere pushed it with her cleavage at the Star Trek premiere. Had her curve-hugging dress been any shorter, it would have been highly inappropriate. Remember, leaving a little to the imagination is what makes this trend sexy. Uncovering it all makes you look like, well, you get the point.
