Kardashian Sisters Are #9 On MTV News’ Women Of The Year List

Which stars had the biggest 2009? Over the next week, we’ll be unveiling our top nine most newsworthy, controversial and fascinating men and women of the year. We based our list on factors like music sales, box-office performance, MTVNews.com headlines and traffic, overall reach (crossover singles, appearances in movies, licensing of songs for commercials, clothing lines, etc.), plus X-factors like “impact” and “buzz.” (And no, President Barack Obama didn’t make the list — we’ll leave that to the folks at Time.) This is by no means an exact science, but we think the list we’ve put together represents the men and women who helped make 2009 the most exciting and memorable 12 months in recent history.

9. The Kardashians

In 2009, we were obsessed with the lives of the three eldest Kardashian daughters, Kim, Khloé and Kourtney, who rose to the top of the celebutante heap thanks to their love lives and ultra-successful E! show. They opened their own boutique — which they documented on another reality series — and lined up countless commercials, workout videos and endorsements. The Ks were so omnipresent in ‘09, they surpassed the likes of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie as Hollywood’s favorite party girls.

2009 Highlights: In the premiere of the third season of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” in early March, Khloé went to jail for violating the terms of her probation, stemming from a 2007 DUI arrest. At the same time, Khloé was also serving time on “The Celebrity Apprentice 2.” And things didn’t get any less hectic for the remainder of the year.

Luckily, “Keeping Up” and “Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami” were there to document it all. We watched as Kim was forced to decide between her increasingly busy career and her boyfriend, NFL star Reggie Bush, a choice made even easier by a brand-new perfume line she was hired to create. We followed the highs and lows of Khloé’s love life (so many men, so little time), and we learned that Kourtney was pregnant, courtesy of bad-boy boyfriend Scott Disick.

That’s when things really started happening. Kourtney’s pregnancy revelation — which, naturally, occurred during the season finale of “Kourtney and Khloé” — and subsequent reunion with Disick made her a red-carpet mainstay. Khloé’s whirlwind marriage to L.A. Laker Lamar Odom was one of the year’s biggest celeb stories. Fittingly, it too appeared on “Keeping Up,” in a highly rated two-hour special that kicked off the fourth season. Oh, and at the wedding, Kim and Reggie reconnected. Yay!

Consequently, the Kardashians have become arguably the biggest stars of Hollywood’s social scene, attending every premiere, walking every carpet, wearing every hot designer. And with a new baby, a high-profile marriage and a much-promoted show, they don’t show any signs of slowing down in 2010, either.

In other Kardashian news, Kim inspired Heidi Montag to pose for Playboy magazine and then received a “Twilight”-inspired vamp-over. … Later, Kim was the object of Eminem’s affections in his “We Made You” video (though she also ended up being shoved in a wood-chipper), something she called “so funny.”. … Kim and Khloé were hired as spokesmodels for the “synergistically designed” Quick Trim dietary products.
